In the digital age, Christmastime is one of the few occasions that old-fashioned “snail mail” is still treasured. One of my favorite parts of celebrating the Holidays is sending and receiving Holiday cards. Now that most of my friends have started having families, swapping Holiday cards is more fun than ever because of the photos that grace the front of each. I love using these cards to decorate the house and look back at the prior year’s greetings and watch everyone grow.
In the past, I have used the major photo outlets to create Holiday cards with family pictures. I’ve been happy with them, but they lacked something unique to make them stand out in the sea of photo cards that arrives every December. This year I saw that one of my favorite eco-friendly, made in USA companies was offering personalized photo cards. Night Owl Paper Goods offers Holidays photos in both paper card and real wood prints, available in dozens of folksy and adorable designs. They even have cut-out ornament shapes, to double your card as a decorative collectible.
I’ve worked with Night Owl in the past and have been impressed with their attentive customer service and quality of their work. Creating our family’s Holiday Card with them was no different. Megan from Night Owl worked diligently and patiently with me as I went back and forth between two designs and photos until I was completely satisfied with the finished product.
The “Berry Rings” design was one of the first to catch my eye. For the back, I chose a calender print to give the card extra usefulness throughout the year (not that anyone would be able to toss out a card with my adorable son on the front!) The paper card is printed on sturdy, post-consumer recycled paper. The real wood cards are thick and unique and are made with sustainably harvested wood. The photo was taken by my friend Stephanie of Stephanie Lee Photography. She offers local Philly families affordable and fun Holiday “mini sessions” that are perfect for photo cards. She uses an adorable set of handmade props and the photos arrive on a CD in a classy wrapped teal box, which also happens to be American made. Stephanie is very supportive of the Made in America movement and I encourage anyone in the Philadelphia area to check her services out.
Happy Holidays from my family to yours!
